Why Water?
Aquatic therapy is a leading therapeutic exercise alternative, no matter what ability level. Water is the ideal treatment medium for a wide range of physical impairments and disabilities that limit movement.
Only water can provide consistent resistance throughout range of motion while offering support for injured or otherwise weak areas. The buoyancy of water dramatically decreases stress on weight-bearing joints, bones and muscles.
Warm Water
Warm water, in particular, promotes general muscular relaxation and lets you exercise for longer periods. It is pain relief; it soothes aching joints, relaxes tense and constricted muscles and allows a wider range of motion in affected areas. It is rewarding; it refreshes the body with the joy of motion, it feels good and encourages physical activity and allows exercise to become a part of a daily routine.
With our Aqua Ability Program, you can gain strength and endurance through water resistance and buoyancy-assisted range of motion. If you have one or more of the following, you’re a good candidate for this program:
- Head and spinal cord injuries
