Ray Myers was diagnosed in 2000, at the age of 42, with Multiple Sclerosis. He started using a cane and slowly began to have more trouble moving around. In 2007, he had a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic which resulted in Ray losing the ability to move either leg or left arm. He was then fitted for a wheelchair and began receiving assistance with all of his daily activities. In 2008, he was treated for pulmonary edema.
Ray participates in the Aqua Ability Program once a week. While in the water, he is able to walk while holding a barbell assisted by his therapist. Swimming, snorkeling, participating in leg exercises, receiving passive and active range of motion are some of the activities he performs during his visit. Outside of the Aqua Ability Program, Ray is involved in activities and exercises at ParaQuad in St. Louis.
